The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is based in a world where the government keeps the peace by killing 24 subjects each year in something called the Hunger Games. Each of the 12 districts picks one boy and one girl between the ages of 13 and 18 to fight to the death. Winner take all. The games themselves takes place in a forest and is televised in a manner reminiscent of The Truman Show only evil.

On the surface I thought I would love this movie. It was very well performed and you could tell that there were cracks in the story that I’m sure the book covers in more depth. For that reason I’ll probably have to go read the books next. However, after thinking about it for a few hours I have to ask why would anyone have children in that Universe? This was the story of the 74th Hunger Games and yet everyone is still reproducing. Wouldn’t a sane couple not have kids just to end the madness of the government’s cull?
