Austin Powers in Goldmember

This third installment of the Austin Powers franchise is every bit as funny as the second, and then a little more. Still not as good as the original, this episode extends it’s own reach to make fun of specific people, not just the James Bond films. Although Seth Green’s character has taken a wrong step, all the other characters have evolved nicely. The comedy is fresh, and the reuse of past humor fits in very well. The cameo appearances were really funny in the introduction to the movie, but that’s as far as it went. Once Brittney Spears showed up on screen the comedy there was gone. Michael Cain makes a great addition into the Powers family, and one of the funniest parts is when Austin and his dad speak in English so the American girls don’t know what they are saying. All in all, the movie is what one would expect from this type of movie. Better than the second, but not better than the first. I am glad I only paid for a matinee price on opening day and not full price. Fans of the first two will enjoy it.
