Hannibal

It’s been quite a few years since I’d seen Silence of the Lambs, but from what I can remember of it, Hannibal seems to be a worthy sequel. Ridley Scott did a great job of tying in parts from the first movie to help new viewers come up to speed on what is going on. I could swear that there was even a shot of Jody Foster in a car on one of the flashbacks. I think it is good that they decided not to re-shoot those scenes. Just admit to your audience that there is a new leading lady and go from there. With that said, I feel that Julianne Moore did a great job playing Clarice Starling. However, Gary Oldman playing Mason Verger did the most impressive acting. I had known he was in the movie, but I couldn’t figure out who it was until the credits ran. Overall the movie was worth the matinee price, but I would not have wanted to pay more for it than that. Some of the imagery was a little unsettling, but that’s what you get with a movie about a cannibal. Some people talking after the movie said they thought it was going to have a lot more gore, but were surprised when it didn’t. Overall I’d say if you’re an Anthony Hopkins, Julianne Moore, or Ridley Scott fan go see it. Otherwise wait for it to come out on video.
